Environmental pollution:
It is a famous quote by Barry commoner. Environmental pollution is an incurable disease. It can only be prevented. One of the primary scourges of our era is environmental pollution. Air pollution, water pollution, soil pollution are major types of environmental pollution. As we live in a modern era, there are other types of pollution; noise pollution, light pollution, plastic pollution. This pollution has a great influence on all the living organisms of the Earth.
Effects of environmental pollution:
Environmental
pollution has a huge impact not only on climate change but also on an
individual’s health. Many pollutants in the environment cause different
diseases in the human body. As for as climate change is concerned environmental
pollution also destroys the ozone layer that prevents ultraviolet rays to reach
the ground. Moreover, carbon mono oxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide are
also harmful to a living organism. Pollution also affects our ecosystem; the
natural cycle of the ecosystem disturb due to an increase in pollution. Last
but not the least, the rise in pollution also affects the life cycle of plants.
Due to the different physical and chemical properties of polluted substances
their toxicity level is different. Their influences depend upon their toxicity
ratio.
Sources of environmental pollution exposure:
There are many
causes of the aforementioned pollution. A few of them are; industries,
transportation, burning of fossils fuels, agricultural activities,
urbanization, etc. there are a lot of human activities that are the basic
causes of emission of pollution in the environment. Industries play a primary
role to increase pollution in the environment. The industrial sector releases
residue and harmful chemicals; not only in the air but also in water. Polluted
water, directly and indirectly, affects human health. Crops ripped in that
harmful water destroy our immune system.
Smoke-cause of polluted air- released from chimneys and combustion engines and
cars has become the source of polluted air. Different human activities release
harmful gases in the air that are lethal for all living things. Agricultural
activities also play a role in the rise of pollution; they directly pollute
water and soil. Fertilizers enriched from chemicals reduce the quality of the
soil. Urbanization also affects the living standard of the people. People move
to big cities to get facilities that they do not have in small cities or
villages. The first and foremost woes of urbanization are to use irrigated land
to settle people in cities. The increase in population in big cities cause
land. Air and water pollution. The state of a developing country can not
provide equal facilities to all its citizens. People face a lot of problems
that affect the natural order of the environment.
Way forward:
There is a need for
time to take steps to reduce pollution from the environment at individual, and
at the government level. Unfortunately, intentionally or unintentionally, human
activities are the primary factors of mentioned pollution. To overcome this
problem, public awareness is the key. First, environmental planning should be
considered in every field. Without planning, all things are messed up and
disturb the environmental cycle. Storage facility of solid waste is also a
great step to reduce pollution from the earth. Appropriate storage of solid
waste does not further pollute the soil, water, and air.
Developed countries
have now shifted their resources from traditional to modern, to generate
pollution-free electricity and energy. To fulfill their needs; countries are
using solar, wind, geothermal energy. Water recycling is also the best way to
overcome air and especially land pollution. Most countries are trying to
replace plastic with some other environmentally friendly materials. Developed
countries have banned the use of plastic packaging. To reduce pollution, our
government initiates planting millions of trees all over the country.
Scientists also try to reduce the electromagnetic radiation that destroys the
ozone layer. All these measures help us to live in a pollution-free
environment.
